The Fellowship of the Ring (1983)

About this game

The Fellowship of the Ring is a wargame centered on the action of the first book of the Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. One player plays the Fellowship, deploying Heroes in an attempt to misdirect and deceive the other player, who plays Sauron with control of the evil Nazgûl and Balrog. It takes many of the ideas from the character game of SPI’s War of the Ring and expands upon them.

Does it fit your group?

• Group size. Strictly 2 players — no more, no fewer.
• Rules load. At 3.6/5 this is a heavy game — read the rulebook before people arrive.
• Age. The publisher suggests 13 and up. That rates the rules rather than the artwork, so judge the box yourself for younger players.
